The 3 Joys of a Staycation
So this past Thanksgiving we decided to step away from our usual trip and do a staycation. Austin is a wonderful city and all though we have been here for a little over 3 years, there’s so much we have yet to explore. This led us to the decision to do a staycation and deep dive in some areas we feel we have been missing out on. To get the full vacation experience we started where we always do for any vacation, which is accommodations. Even though we have a home, we decided to get an Airbnb on the east side of Austin. We didn’t get just any Airbnb. We made a tiny house our home for 2 days. A staycation is something that anyone can take advantage of especially if you leave in a big city. These are the 3 joys of having a staycation.
3 JOYS OF A STAYCATION
- Take pride: It allows you to step away from your mundane life and take pride in where you live. We get so used to our everyday life we, we don’t take in the greatness all around us. When you go on vacation anywhere you typically don’t focus on all the woes of the city. You go sightseeing at all the highlights, see the historic sights, and eat at all the highest rated restaurants. On a staycation, you do the same. It makes you look at all the great things your city has to offer and gives you a reminder of how fortunate you are to leave there.
- Budget-friendly: Staycations have Little costs. We decided to get an Airbnb, but we could have saved on that as well. There’s no plane tickets to buy and because we were in the same city there were little to no transportation costs.
- Indulge in the culture: We decided to explore the historic east side of Austin. Although so much has changed, we were intentional about engaging in what makes the east side truly great. We avoided all of the mainstream restaurants and activities built recently and pleasured ourselves in food and art by those who have always lived and breathed the east side.
Staycations are a delight.
When you need a vacation from life that’s budget-friendly and not too time-consuming it’s the way to go. We stayed in Austin but a “staycation” can happen in any nearby city that doesn’t require a long drive or airplane tickets. We also enjoyed 2 days but all it takes is one day to step away from your norm. So go learn something new about your city or a nearby town, it will take your love of home to a new level.
